| Paul Downey is an acclaimed artist who lives and works in Killarney, Co. Kerry, Ireland. His reputation as a watercolourist of the movement and impact of sporting action is widely known and highly regarded. His subjects include horse racing, rugby football, hurling and gaelic football.
A critic has recently written of him, "There is probably no other artist in Ireland today who succeeds in effectively freezing that split second in sport"
He is also an accomplished landscape artist. His evocative, sensitive and inspiring watercolours of the landscape, water and skies of Kerry are prized possessions of collectors all over the world.
An experienced exhibitor, he is a veteran of several sell out exhibitions at the Frank Lewis Gallery, Killarney, and has participated in group shows at several other quality galleries.
His exhibitions have been opened by such personalities as Former Taoiseach and Sports Star, Jack Lynch and Sports Broadcaster Micheal O'Muircheartaigh.
Works by Paul Downey have been chosen to illustrate the covers of the official programmes for the 1991 and 1992 Irish Open Golf Tournaments as well as the 1994 and 1998 All Ireland Gaelic Football Finals.
His paintings hang in Government and Corporate Offices, Public Buildings and Private collections all over Ireland and abroad.
